Heavy rains flood streets, close roads across the South Plains

LUBBOCK COUNTY, TX (KCBD) -

Torrential downpours have caused widespread street flooding across Lubbock this evening.

Downpours have also caused widespread street flooding and localized areas of significant home and business flooding across the southwestern South Plains.

The Texas Department of Transportation has closed US 62/82 and FM 385 due to heavy flooding at Seagraves.

There have been reports of home evacuations in Seagraves, due to water entering homes. The Church of Christ Building at 12th & F and the Seagraves Junior High gym are both being opened for shelter in Seagraves.

At one point, Lubbock Power & Light reported 140 power outages in the Lubbock area. To report an outage, please email lightsout@lpandl.com.

The threat of torrential rain and flooding will continue through tonight. A Flash Flood Watch remains in effect until 7 a.m.
