Lubbock Family Homeless Following House Fire

A family of nine is homeless after a fire destroys their home. It happened around 12:30 Friday afternoon at 6916 Elk Road. That's near the Hockley-Lubbock County Line.

Fire fighters from Levelland, Smyer and West Carlisle found the house fully engulfed with smoke when they arrived. A mother and four children were home at the time but escaped safely. The mother apparently turned her back for a second when the children started screaming "fire."

The cause however, is unknown at this time.
