New CEO For Covenant Health System

The largest healthcare institution in West Texas has hired a new leader.

NewsChannel 11 has confirmed Steven L. Hunter will be named Chief Executive Officer of Covenant Health Systems Wednesday.

Hunter is currently the CEO of  SSM Health Care in Oklahoma where he's held the position since 2000. Prior to that, he served as President of Saint Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City. Hunter holds a master's degree in hospital administration and a bachelor's degree in medical technology and chemistry.

Sources tell NewsChannel 11 Covenant's board of director's voted to hire Hunter Tuesday morning and an official announcement is expected at a news conference Wednesday afternoon. Hunter will replace Charley Trimble who announced his retirement as CEO, last June.

Covenant President and CEO Resigns
Covenant Health Systems President and Chief Executive Officer Charley Trimble has decided to step down.

The transition comes at a time when Covenant is recovering from financial troubles. For the past couple of years, Covenant has had numerous lay-offs because of budget shortfalls.
