Hale Center High School’s band is proudly displaying a new name outside its hall.
On July 4, the band hall was dedicated to the late esteemed band director J.W. King, who led the high school’s program from 1953 to 1970. King died in 1997, but lives on through his students – many of whom attended the dedication.
“The things they learned from Mr. King were more than just band things,” current band director Teresa Archambo said. “They learned how to live a life and be patient and be dedicated to activities that they do now. It’s just a wonderful thing to see all those people talk about his history.”
King was inducted into the Band Director Hall of Fame and was the recipient of numerous awards, including Band Master of the Year.
