Steven L. Hunter Named CEO of Covenant Health System

It's official....the largest healthcare institution in West Texas has a new leader.

Covenant Health Systems named Steven L. Hunter as Chief Executive Officer Wednesday.

Hunter is currently the CEO of  SSM Health Care in Oklahoma where he's held the position since 2000. Prior to that, he served as President of Saint Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City. Hunter holds a master's degree in hospital administration and a bachelor's degree in medical technology and chemistry.

Covenant board members say Hunter's background will help them overcome issues, including financial struggles, the hospital has faced in the past.  "He brings great leadership and a great resume and background that will help take covenant forward in the future," said Danny Johnston, Chairman of the Board of Directors.

In a statement released by Covenant, Hunter said he's "delighted at the opportunity" and that "Covenant already has a proud tradition of excellence and I am looking forward to building on that strength even more in the years to come."

Hunter will replace Charley Trimble who announced his retirement as CEO, last June.
