What began as a routine traffic stop ended with the driver behind bars. It began around 12:15 Thursday morning when police tried to pull over a sport utility vehicle at 51st and Ave W. The driver refused to stop and sped away, leading police on a brief chase. He then crashed into a house in the 1900 block of 38th street and ran from police on foot.
Police caught up with the suspect, 33-year-old Jimmy Torres Rodriguez, four blocks away. Rodriguez was armed with a pistol when he was arrested and now faces a firearm by possession of a felon charge. That's because he was wanted for probation violations.
In addition, Rodriguez also faces evading arrest charges.
