COWLITZ COUNTY, WA (KPTV) -

It's been a devastating wildfire season for Washington, Oregon and California. Firefighters in California said the Valley Fire will likely go down as one of the most destructive fires in a decade. It has destroyed a least 1,200 homes and killed at least three people.

Some of those rescued from the wildfires in Washington were pets and some of the dogs are finding new homes in Cowlitz County.

The director of the Humane Society of Cowlitz County, Keenan Harvey, brought three dogs back from Okanogan County. Two of the dogs have homes and they're looking for a family for the third dog, Jake.

Jake is a one and a half year old lab mix. He use to have a home at a rescue operation run out of woman's home in Okanogan Co., but when a wildfire came through this summer they all had to leave.

The wildfire later ended up burning the kennels at the rescue home.

Jake and two other dogs were brought to an emergency animal shelter where Harvey was volunteering.

Harvey volunteered to take the dogs Jake, Jaxx and Red back to Longview in August.

Now two of the dogs are living with new families and Harvey is confident Jake will be adopted soon.

"I told her our adoption numbers have been high. We can place these dogs easily, they're very adoptable in our county. It's really rewarding. I'm in this biz to help the animals and it's rewarding for me to find them homes," said Harvey.

The Humane Society of Cowlitz Co. is open Monday through Saturday.
