Texas Ten Commandment Debate Goes To U.S. Supreme Court

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott will go before the U.S. Supreme Court Wednesday to defend a monument of the ten commandments.

The six-foot granite monument has been on the Texas Capitol Grounds in Austin since 1961. Thomas Van Orden, a homeless man, sued the state to remove the monument because he says it violates the First Amendment.

Abbott argues that the monument acknowledges the historical impact of the ten commandments on American and Texas law and culture.
