300 Acre Fire Extinguished Near Reese Center

The scene is finally clear after a grass-fire broke out West of Lubbock, near Reese Center.

The fire started just before 5 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, and stretched across 300 acres of land near FM 179 and 4th Street. Firefighters at the scene said the same person who reported the fire may be to blame.

"We have reason to believe it was a catalytic converter of a pick up driving out here through these fields," said West Carlisle Fire Chief, Tim Smith.

Smith says a catalytic converter from the truck's exhaust may have sparked the fire. West Carlisle, Shallowater, Wolfforth and Lubbock Fire Departments all responded to the scene. No homes were ever threatened by the blaze, but firefighters kept close watch on cotton bales stored at Reese Center.
