Fire Destroys Lubbock Senior's Home

A fire broke out just after 4:30pm Thursday, burning a house to the ground at 29th & Avenue J. Lubbock fire responded in about three minutes, but the blaze was so bad they had to call out a second alarm, using three ladder trucks to fight the fire.

Jesse and Anita Lopez were at a doctor's appointment when they got to their street to find their house was on fire. LFD says the cause of the blaze is still unknown, but they do say witnesses heard an explosion before the flames broke out.

No one was injured in the fire, but the Lopez family is trying to deal with the devastation. Jesse Lopez says, "We can't afford to pay rent because we live off of social security. That's not much by the time we pay bills we are waiting for the next month to come. I don't know what we'll do now."

The American Red Cross did come out to assist the family, but the Lopez's still don't know how they're going to recover from losing everything they own.
