GLENDALE, AZ (WTVM) - “Roll Tide!”

Rick and Barbara Smith made the 1,700-mile trek to Phoenix from Columbus, and they certainly weren’t going to miss an opportunity to see the Tide play for a National Championship.

“Very first time to come to something like this, though. Never been to the National Championship game before," said Rick Smith. "It's a great opportunity, it’s a great game. It’s a rivalry, but it’s a great opportunity being around everybody in this venue is outstanding.”

They’ve had season tickets in Tuscaloosa for 15 years, but a National Championship game is a new experience for the couple.

“There’s just so much more to do, it was more routine, but here there's much more to do and I’ve never been here before so it’s great for me," Barbara Smith said.

If Alabama wins tomorrow night, it will be historic for the Tide, and something they would love to be a part of.

“Getting to stand up there and say now Coach Saban has tied Coach Bryant for the number of national championships, that kind of experience is just great," Rick Smith said. "And to be around all these people who have traveled for the common effort is neat.”

And like any fan, they’re looking forward to a potential big night for the Tide.

“A victory, first and foremost," Rick Smith said. "Watching the competition itself. It’s going to be a great game with two really really good teams and when you start putting all that talent together, it’s going to be an outstanding opportunity to watch.”

“Of course, the whole experience, but my favorite part of the game is Rammer Jammer. I love singing it at the end of the game," Barbara Smith said.
