Lubbock Hosts 5th Triennial Vietnam Symposium

The year 2005 brings three major Vietnam anniversaries:

  • the 40th anniversary of the first commitment of U.S. ground forces in Vietnam
  • the 30th anniversary of the end of the war
  • the 10th anniversary of the normalization of relations between the U.S. and Vietnam.

Thursday also marks the beginning of the Vietnam Center's 5th Triennial Vietnam Symposium. Over the course of three days, an array of speakers will be discussing various aspects of the war, including similarities to the war in Iraq.

"I believe the basic premise of the war, that is creating an Iraq that is free, and people that have a degree of prosperity, is something well worth pursuing," said James Reckner, Vietnam Center Director.

Lubbock's Vietnam Center is located on the campus of Texas Tech University.
