KCBD's Investigates team broke the story about the Buffalo Springs Water District's debt to Lubbock County last April.
Now, almost a year later, nothing has been done to resolve the more than $382,000 in election debt the Lake owes Lubbock County taxpayers.
This is the sum of years of unpaid costs of elections - costs that are shared and paid regularly by every other city and taxing entity in the county.
County Commissioner Mark Heinrich told KCBD last September that he hoped for a resolution by the end of the year. Four months have passed with no resolution.
One former Lake board member stated plainly that the Lake's strategy has always been to delay because the county commissioners never follow through.
It looks like that's been a sound strategy up to now.
Consider this...it's time to play hard ball.
The Lubbock County Commissioners should step up, hire outside counsel if necessary, and sue the Buffalo Springs Lake board for the entire amount owed Lubbock County.
This is our money.
And if the Buffalo Springs Lake board suddenly offers to settle for less...by all means don't!
