Lubbock Independent School Board President Mark Griffin was chosen to serve as regent until his term expires in 2011. Griffin says he is not required to step down as School Board President. "I'm going to continue to watch (for any conflicts.) If there's some opportunity between Texas Tech University and the Lubbock Schools that makes sense, I'm not going to stand in the way and I'll step down from the board if it gets to be that situation. These two entities are too important to the community," said Griffin.
Griffin is the President of Rip Griffin Truck Service Center. Griffin is a member of the State Bar of Texas and currently serves as a director of Covenant Health Systems. The nomination must be confirmed by the senate before it becomes official.
