"Don't drink and drive," that was the message Crosbyton High School students faced Tuesday in a mock drunk driving crash that killed some of their classmates.
Although the scenario was fake, emotions were real. The mock crash was sponsored by DPS, who prepared a fake scene to show students what it is like for friends and families who lose loved ones to drunk drivers. But, for one student the scene was all too real.
Jason Trevino lost his brother to a drunk driver about two years ago. "My brother was killed by a drunk driver two years ago and my brother died. My cousin that was with him had so many surgeries I don't even know. The drunk driver got away with a neck injury and got out the next morning."
The program is called Shattered Dreams, and it will resume on Wednesday with an assembly where acting victims and their families will share their emotional experience.
