One suspect is in custody and Lubbock police have issued warrants for two others after a cell phone video of an aggravated robbery in Maxey Park went viral this week.
The assault happened Wednesday evening outside the school day, but the victims sought refuge at an LISD middle school where school personnel called the district police for assistance.
Warrants have been issued for James Ybarra, 41, and David Ybarra, 23. A juvenile suspect was taken into custody earlier on Friday.
This statement was issued by Lubbock Independent School District on Friday afternoon:
"Around 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 3, two juveniles were at Maxey Park when they were assaulted by two adults and a juvenile. The juvenile victims fled to Smylie Wilson Middle School to seek help and LISD Police were called by school personnel. The victims were transported to the hospital where they were both treated and released. The assailants were identified from cell phone video taken by one of the victims. The juvenile assailant is in police custody and warrants were issued today for the two adults, James Ybarra, 41, and David Ybarra, 23, for aggravated robbery."
CORRECTION: We were led to believe both adult suspects had been taken into custody on Friday afternoon, but they are not currently listed in the Lubbock County Jail Roster. We'll continue to update this story as we get confirmation from Lubbock police.
