American Flags Burned in Southwest Lubbock

Police are looking for clues into who is setting American flags on fire in Southwest Lubbock. Two homeowners on 46th Street have had their displays of patriotism torched in the past week. Both homeowners had their American flag on a flag pole in their front yards when someone set fire to it just after dark. Both flags were destroyed and one of the flag poles didn't hold up very well either.

There were no witnesses to the crime and victims are left wondering why someone would do such a thing. Luther Bosquez says, "Somebody hates me or something, or somebody is against America, hates america. I don't know what it is.  It's got to be something like that."

Burning the American flag is a violation of the state's penal code. Anyone who knowingly defaces, mutilates, or burns the United States or the Texas flag faces up to a year in jail.
