Renowned Heart Surgeon Returns To West Texas - KCBD NewsChannel 11 Lubbock

The Pediatric Heart Center at Covenant has been renamed in honor of West Texas native Dr. Wayne Isom.

The renowned heart surgeon is from Idalou and began his practice in Lubbock at, what used to be, Methodist Hospital.

Friday, Isom returned to Lubbock to discuss the history of coronary bypass, and the controversy surrounding this procedure, at the 2nd Annual DeBakey Distinguished Lectureship Series. Covenant then held the dedication of the Isom Heart Center for Children.

"Coming back to see something like this is very gratifying and rewarding. I don't think I deserve this honor but it's great to come back." said Dr. Isom.

Some of Dr. Isom's most famous patients include Larry King, Walter Cronkite and David Letterman.
