CLARKSDALE, MS (WMC) -

The weather has improved, but Clarksdale, Mississippi, is still dealing with the impact of recent rains.

Major roads remain closed. Many homes are still flooded.

“So many low lying areas. The water is everywhere,” said one Clarksdale resident.

Mayor Bill Luckett said the water is still rising.

Sir Master Pro Fire and Water visited homes to spray them for mold.

“It’s past my knees,” said employee Jim Roberts, of the water level in one home.

Bobby Snyder’s home was filled with at least two feet of water.

“The bathtub is completely full of water, and there’s also a carp in my grandson’s bedroom about this big,” said Snyder, as he described the size of the fish. "We spent most of the night drying out pictures and baseball cards."

The kitchen flooded with water halfway up the cabinets. The toilet bowl almost disappeared under the water in the bathroom.

"Its not in any hurry to get out of here either."

Roberts said he’s been going through flooded homes for years and he’s never seen it this bad.

“No, never and definitely not in this area,” said Roberts.

WMC Action News 5's Rose Eiklor floated through the neighborhood on a boat. See video from her experience:

Water was up to the first floor windows. Household items, like chairs, floated down the street while vehicles had water up to the bottom of the car.

Homeowners called it scary.

“I’ve lived here 25 years. The water has never gotten this close to my house,” said one homeowner.

Neighbors said the only reason they are getting through is because they are working together.

"It's just neighbors helping neighbors."

Residents prayed the water will begin to recede very soon.

Meanwhile, The American Red Cross set up a shelter for the county at the Clarksdale Civic Center.
