A Lubbock jury found Collie Willard not guilty of murder.
Instead, Willard was found guilty on an aggravated assault charge. A Lubbock jury spent seven hours deliberating the verdict Thursday evening.
Willard was on trial for the stabbing death of Roberto Esquivel, who died August of 2003, during a house party in the 1800 Block of East 1st Place. At the time, Willard was supposed to be in prison, but had been accidentally released due to a clerical error.
The punishment phase begins in Friday morning.
