LAKE HAVASU CITY, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -

Firefighters appear to be making giant inroads on a wildfire burning along the Arizona-California border that has scorched at least 2,200 acres.

As of Saturday morning, crews had about 85 percent of the burn areas surrounded by containment lines and there was little to no active fire. Flying embers were still a threat.

The wildfire scorched areas along the Colorado River north of Lake Havasu City, Arizona, and south of Needles, California.

The flames forced about 100 people to evacuate two RV parks on Wednesday. Officials said evacuations have been lifted for Moabi Mobile home park. All employees of Pirate Cove Resort may return and campers may return only to recover belongings with an escort.

The flames scorched a path around dozens of manufactured homes in the Pirate Cove Resort, but left the buildings untouched. The resort said only the roof of an outdoor DJ pavilion near the restaurant burned, along with a few zip line poles.

"We're fortunate everything's still intact," said Kevin Mulvey, who owns two vacation homes at the resort.

Crews conducted a burnout operation Wednesday night while the wind and temperatures were low. They burned about 200 acres to try to corral the fire.

Firefighters in Arizona and California are battling the Topock Fire from both sides of the river. There are about 165 firefighters on scene. Two helicopters are dropping water on the hot spots.

The wildfire started in the Havasu National Wildlife Refuge early Wednesday morning and crossed over the Colorado River into California.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
