Tigers not concerned after A-Day performance

AUBURN, AL (WTVM) -

At first glance, a low-scoring afternoon at Auburn's A-Day Saturday could draw up some red flags.

The team’s two turnovers and only two touchdowns may not look great on paper, but another look could show there's more to those stats than meets the eye.

Head coach Gus Malzahn said he wanted to go with a "vanilla" offense Saturday, most likely trying not to tip his hand for Clemson when they come to town in September.

Fans were hoping to see any of the three quarterbacks, John Franklin III, Sean White or Jeremy Johnson separate themselves from the pack.

None of them jumped off the page on the stat sheet. Johnson and Franklin III both had touchdowns, but neither eclipsed the 100 yard mark passing. Gus and the crew aren’t letting it worry them.

"The challenge is when you rotate quarterbacks with three different groups and you've got different receivers and all that,” Malzahn said. “You've
got to give our defense credit, but as far as concern, no I'm not concerned at all."

“It's been a good competition and we all feel good about where we are as a team and we feel good about going into the first game with three quarterbacks,” Jeremy Johnson said.

Coach Malzahn gave credit to the defense for a great performance, said they had great depth on that side of the ball.
