Researchers have discovered a new use for the impotence drug Viagra. It could one day protect some cancer patients from heart damage.
A study published in Circulation says Doxorubicin is a drug often used to treat breast cancer and leukemia, but it carries a risk of heart damage. The good news is researchers have found giving a dose of Viagra to mice before they get that anti-cancer medicine helped prevent heart damage and even heart failure. So, now they're hoping that some day Viagra may be included in the chemotherapy regimen as protection for the heart.
