Memorial Fund Set Up For Victim of Trench Accident

It will take OSHA investigators three-weeks to gather preliminary evidence in the fatal trench accident in southeast Lubbock.

Work on the drainage project was at a standstill Wednesday, just hours after crews recovered the body of Rafael Castillo. It took firefighters nine hours to find the 22-year-old's body. Castillo was working near the bottom of the trench when the dirt walls collapsed around him.

Castillo leaves behind a wife and a 1-year-old daughter. A memorial fund has been set up in his name at the American Bank of Commerce. You can donate to the Lubbock branches on 50th street and 82nd street or the Wolfforth branch at west 82nd street and Highway 62/82.
