The Snyder school board voted 7-0 Wednesday afternoon to name Cory Mandrell as the new Tigers Football Coach and Athletic Director.

Mandrell is a Snyder grad and former Snyder assistant coach under Chad Rogers who most recently has been the Offensive Coordinator at Denison, where Rogers is now coaching.

Mandrell is coming home to take over for James Polk, who left to take the head football coaching job at Gatesville.

Mandrell coached varsity receivers and baseball at Lubbock High in 2005 and was a coach at Snyder from 2006 to 20011. He coached Defensive backs and tight ends at Snyder in 2006 and then was the offensive coordinator from 2007-2011.

Former Snyder Coach Chad Rogers has glowing things to say about Mandrell from his time on his staff at Snyder and Denison.

"I'm happy for Cory. I'm happy for his family. I have a tremendous amount of respect for the great job that he did for a long time in helping our program be successful. One of the reasons he is successful is because of the goals and aspirations that he has, so you're very, very proud of him and the opportunity he has worked so hard for. As a head Coach you want the people you work with to move up in their profession. It shows they come from quality programs."

Congrats to Cory and welcome back to Scurry County to coach the Snyder Tigers.
