An overnight burglary started with a bang, as the driver of a suburban rammed into the front of a Radio Shack for easy access to the merchandise. Employees at the Radio Shack on 4th & Frankford have had to literally pick up the pieces as their store front was slammed into overnight.
It happened just after 1:30 Friday morning, two men drove a stolen Suburban through the front of the store and grabbed as much merchandise as they could. A witness called police on his cell phone and followed the suspects until police could take over. The suspects led police on a brief high speed chase, until the tire in the Suburban blew out, in the 300 block of North Boston. At that point the driver 23-year-Eric Cruz fled on foot, but was captured along with his passenger 31-year-old Mike Alfred Rodriguez.
"We recovered approximately $2500 of merchandise from Radio Shack. Obviously in this particular case the far greater loss for Radio Shack will be repairing the store front," said LPD Lt Roy Bassett.
Both men face burglary of a building charges. But the driver, Eric Cruz also faces evading with a motor vehicle, evading on foot and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle charges. We were unable to reach management of Radio Shack for a comment.
