Special warning for men over 50 on Melanoma Monday

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

The American Academy of Dermatology calls it Melanoma Monday and they're launching a new public service announcement targeting one group in particular: men over age 50.

The doctors believe that group is at higher risk for developing melanoma than the general population because they were less likley to use sunscreen growing up and as a young adult.

The five-year survival rate for those whose melanoma is detected and treated before it spreads is 98 percent.
