NORMAN, Okla. – Texas Tech softball fell, 8-0, to No. 7 Oklahoma Friday night in game one of the Red Raiders’ three-game series at the OU Softball Complex.

The seventh-ranked Sooners opened the scoring with a two out RBI single back through the middle of the Tech infield by Fale Aviu that scored Erin Miller from third in the bottom of the first inning.

With the Red Raider offense still held at bay in the top of the second, Oklahoma added two more runs with a Miller homer to left that scored Lea Wodach who reached on a single earlier in the frame.

With neither team able to plate a run in the third, the Red Raiders broke up the OU no-hitter with a lead-off single by senior Jordan Bettiol in the fourth. Unfortunately a double play and a strikeout would end the inning.

Following a scoreless bottom of the fourth, the Red Raiders threatened again in the top of the fifth as Susan Welborn roped a one out double to the wall in left. Sophomore Kaylee Strickland came in as a pinch runner and worker her way to third on a throwing error by the Sooner’s catcher. Oklahoma ace Paige Parker found her way out of the inning, however, off a pair of strikeouts.

The Sooners would come storming back in the home half of the fifth, bringing in five runs on six hits to close out the Oklahoma victory.

Friday’s loss dropped the Red Raiders to 23-30 on the season, including a 6-10 mark in Big 12 play. The loss also dropped the Red Raiders to 7-40 all-time against the Sooners, including a 4-20 mark in games played in Norman.

Texas Tech will be back in action Saturday afternoon as the Red Raiders will face No. 7 Oklahoma in the second game of the three-game series. First pitch for Saturday’s game is slated for 1 p.m. CT. The Red Raiders will wrap up their 2016 season with a 3 p.m. CT game against the Sooners Sunday. Fans can follow all of the action from the 2016 softball season by following @TTUSB on Twitter.
