Since May is Mental Health Awareness Month, the focus continues on spreading the word.

All those who are dealing with a mental illness are encouraged to use social media to share how it feels using  #whatmentalillnessfeelslike.

Also there are important activities planned in the coming weeks to promote awareness of mental illness recovery.

The first event is a Walk. But this is not the typical Walk. You don’t have to get a team or raise money. You don’t even need to get there on time. Eileen Barker, Director of Behavioral Health Services at StarCare explains, "You can come out at any point in time between 9 and noon and walk the trail at your leisure. We'll have stations throughout the trail and individuals can come out and learn about different diagnoses as well as recovery.

Everyone is asked to join the Walk this Saturday for Mental Health Recovery Awareness.

You don't even need to sign up in advance.

Just show up Saturday between 9 and noon at Higginbotham Park... which is at 19th and Vicksburg.

For more information on the services of StarCare, call (806) 766-0310.

You’ll find the office at 1915 Aspen, near MLK Blvd.
