Next Monday is Memorial Day, the federal holiday for remembering the people who died while serving in our country's armed forces.
Memorial Day is always important, but it is particularly important in times like these when our nation is still fighting on foreign soil.
The freedoms we enjoy were paid for in blood. In the last 240 years more than one million Americans have died in service to their country. Each is a hero of the Republic.
Consider this: Make Memorial Day matter, because the lives of those who died for us matter.
Take time next Monday to explain to your family why Memorial Day is a special holiday. This is not just another three day weekend.
Fly your flag proudly and properly if you have one.
And if you are able, attend a Memorial Day service like the one held at the Lubbock Cemetery next Monday morning.
Because freedom isn't free, and those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for us deserve to be remembered and honored.
