This year’s salutatorian, Tizzy Walker has a GPA of 3.67. She is the daughter of Mary and Judson Walker and has attended Kress schools since kindergarten. Walker is attending Texas A&M University in College Station, this fall, to major in Agribusiness with minors in agronomy and entomology. Tizzy has been involved in band, playing the alto and tenor saxophone her freshman year. She participated in One Act Play all three years and has received Honorable Mention All-Star Cast at district her sophomore year; Best Actress at district her junior year as well as Honorable Mention All-Star Cast at Bi-District. She ran cross country 3 years. Tizzy is a cheerleader, a runner up for Homecoming Queen and played basketball her senior year receiving Honorable Mention All-District. Tizzy also served on the yearbook as the business manager her junior year. Tizzy competed in U.I.L. Calculator her freshman through junior year placing 2nd individual and 1st place team all three years advancing to Region. Her senior year she participated in U.I.L. Poetry Interpretation placing third at district and advancing to Region. She has been in the Gifted and Talented program for two years and participated in Shattered Dreams an anti-drinking campaign. Tizzy participated in Industrial Technology Education Club all four years of high school receiving “Best in State” for her wood projects all four years. Tizzy has been an officer in Kress High School’s Student Council all four years and currently serves as this year’s student body president. She has received many academic awards including “All A’s Plaque” all four years, “President’s Education Award”, numerous subject awards, and an Academic Blanket with accumulating Patches. She has received numerous citizenship awards and Plainview Daily Herald, “Tomorrow’s Leader Award”.
Tizzy has been an active member of Swisher County 4-H for ten years. She has participated in a wide array of projects including: Commercial Steers, Livestock and Meat Judging, Entomology, Food Challenge, Pistol, Rifle, Trap Shooting, Method Demonstration, Horse, Safety, Leadership, Service Learning, Goat, Photography, and Fashion. She has served as a delegate for National 4-H Congress and State 4-H Congress. She served as Kress 4-H club president and currently is the Vice President. She has served on the 4-H float committee, County Camp leader, District 2 Junior Leader Lab Camp Counselor, County 4-H Council Co-Chair last year and currently is Secretary. She has taught lawn mower, water, and grain safety at Ag Safety Day in Tulia. Her community service projects include helping organize the making of feed sack bags, while admission to the annual 4-H fall dance was a blanket and hygienic items to fill the bags for the foster children of Swisher County. She also helped paint Kress’s concession stand, host a petting zoo at Tulia nursing home, paint and clean up at Swisher County Stock show and Rodeo grounds, and help gather firewood, cook and serve brisket at the County Picnic. Tizzy is a member of the Junior Tri-State Fair board, the Single Action Shooting Society and an active member in Claytonville Baptist Church.
