Laura Olvera was named valedictorian of Lubbock-Cooper’s Class of 2016. She is the daughter of Daniel and Lucila Olvera. In the fall, Laura will be attending Texas Tech University as a member of the Honors College and will be majoring in architecture.
Named a National Hispanic Scholar her junior year, Laura Olvera also served as President of the National Honor Society. Throughout her high school career, Laura also dedicated her time to tutoring, volunteering in the community, and participating in University Interscholastic League Ready Writing, a competitive essay writing event she advanced to the state meet for her freshman year. In addition to excelling academically, Laura has also dedicated her time to the arts. Her artwork has been showcased in Lubbock’s First Friday Art Trail, sold, and has received recognition from the Scholastic Art Awards. Laura Olvera has been awarded over $40,000 in academic scholarships.
