LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Monterey Girls Basketball Coach Jill Schneider has long been involved with USA Basketball.

A member of the 1980 US Women's Olympic Team, Schneider has been coaching some of the 16-18 year old US teams over the past few years.

This week, she heads to Kazakhstan to coach the USA U18 Women's 3v3 team at the World Championships. With only four players on the roster, it's a new look for Coach Schneider.

"The 3 v3 game is really different than the 5 v 5 game. I don't think I realized how different until I got up there and started working with the players. I just went around watching all the guys play and all the girls play to figure it out strategies. There are a lot of strategies and it happens in a hurry."

Coach Schneider is extremely knowledgeable about the sport of basketball, but 3v3 is even a learning experience for her.

"Prior to three weeks ago, I had no experience. Other than the 3 on 3 we have. Everybody plays 3 on 3 in your basketball camps or cutthroat or in practices. As far are real true 3 on 3 where it's at national competitive and internationally competitive levels, I'm in my 4th week of gaining experience."

Ironically, after weeks of practicing with her 3 v 3 team, once game time starts, Coach Schneider will not be around. Coaches are not allowed on the bench during games.

"In the 3 on 3 games, they really don't have a coach. During their games, they are on their own. I just watch and take notes."

The US teams opens 3v3 play against the Netherlands on June 2nd and Coach Schneider knows for sure the competition will be very difficult.

"Every country can find 3 or 4 good players. Not everyone can find 10 or 12 like we do a lot of times dominating at the Olympic level because we can do that. However, everyone has a handful of really good players so the competition will be really good."

We wish Coach Schneider and the USA U18 Women's 3v3 team the best of luck.
