Tatum Richey, daughter of Trey and Hayley Richey of Gail, has been named as the Valedictorian of Borden County High School for the Class of 2016.
Richey is a member of the National Beta Club and is a Distinguished Achievement graduate. She also completed 30 hours of dual credit college classes through Western Texas College during her high school career.
Active in athletics, Richey played varsity basketball all four years of high school and was captain the past two years. She was selected First Team All-District her sophomore year, All-District Co-Defensive MVP her senior year, Second Team All-Region her senior year, and Six-Man Coaches Association Academic All-State her junior year.
In track, Richey made it to regional all four years in high school and was a member of the state champion track team her freshman year.
She was also a regional qualifier in cross country her junior and senior years. She played varsity golf all four years, qualifying for regional the past three years.
Richey was a varsity cheerleader, serving as captain her junior and senior years and was selected as an All-American Cheerleader all four years in high school.
Involved in UIL academic competition all four years, she competed in Prose her freshman year, was a member of the Calculator and Spelling teams the past three years, qualified for regional in Spelling her sophomore and junior years, and was the district champion and regional qualifier in Calculator her senior year.
Richey will attend Texas Tech University.
