OMAHA, NE (KCBD) -

Behind a 2-run home run from Eric Gutierrez and superb pitching by Davis Martin, Texas Tech staved off elimination, beating Florida 3-2, eliminating the top-seeded Gators from the College World Series.

The Red Raiders live to see another day thanks to a brilliant pitching performance from Martin. The freshman right-hander tossed seven shut out innings, allowing just three hits while striking out three Gator hitters. Martin improves to 10-1 on the season.

Martin out-pitched Florida ace Alex Faedo who went 13-2 this year for Florida. Faedo pitched well, striking out nine Texas Tech hitters over 7.2 innings. But his one mistake - a fast ball down the middle of the plate - was blasted into the Red Raider bullpen over the left field wall by Big 12 Player of the Year, Gutierrez in the 4th inning.

Texas Tech added another run in the 9th inning as Neslony scored after a throwing error by Florida first baseman, Peter Alonso, to go on top 3-0.

The insurance run loomed large as Florida provided some 9th inning drama. Alonso cranked a 2-run home run off Hayden Howard to cut Tech's lead to 3-2. But with two outs Texas Tech left fielder Tyler Neslony gunned down Florida's Johnathon India as he tried to stretch a single into a double at 2nd base to end the game.

The Red Raiders will next play on Thursday against the loser of tonight's game between TCU and Coastal Carolina.

The win marks the first for Texas Tech all-time at the College World Series in Omaha. The Red Raiders are now the only national seed remaining as No. 1 Florida and No. 3 Miami have been both been eliminated.
