Kevin McGinnis

Kevin McGinnis

Kevin is the son of Mr. & Mrs. Matt and Elizabeth McGinnis. Mr. and Mrs. McGinnis, will you please join me up front as well.

Kevin began his academic career as a Haynes Hawk and continued on to be an Evans Eagle before beginning his time at Monterey High School.  Kevin has distinguished himself as an exceptional student. He is a mature and self-motivated young man who strives to live life with character and integrity.  Kevin is held in very high regard by his teachers and peers. Not only an achiever scholastically, he has a keen sense of humor that draws people to him immediately. Kevin has held many leadership positions as a Monterey Plainsmen including student body vice president and senior class president. Not many people know that Kevin is also a talented musician.  He has scored in the top percentile of the Whitlock state music theory test every year since kindergarten and is an extremely talented pianist.

Kevin excelled academically during his years at Monterey, and has received many awards. One of his most prestigious awards is earning the AP scholar distinction. To date, he has scored a qualifying score on 8 of his advanced placement tests with additional scores pending. Additionally, Kevin represented Monterey through his participation in academic decathlon and brought home multiple awards, including medaling at state.

Kevin was selected by his teachers and peers to represent Monterey as a Top Plainsman every year, and now as a senior, proudly represents his school as Mr. Monterey.   This reflects the esteem and respect that he has earned from both students and adults.

This fall, Kevin will attend Kansas University in Lawrence on a full academic scholarship. He plans to major in Mass communications and eventually go to seminary and pursue a graduate theological degree.

Kevin has received more than $67,000 in scholarship awards and will also be awarded the  Texas Valedictorian Tuition Scholarship along with the South Plains College Valedictorian Scholarship.

Congratulations Kevin.  And thank you for your many contributions to Monterey High School.
