Police Release New Details In Teacher, Student Altercation

Lubbock Police now say door bell ringing led to the fight between a Monterey High School teacher and a juvenile. Mathew Hill, a Monterey Math teacher, remains on paid administrative leave as of Tuesday night. He is charged with injury to a child. If convicted, the charge carries a 5 to 99 year prison sentence.

Police say two juvenile males were ringing door bells in the 5400 Block of 30th street, Saturday night. When Hill confronted the boys about ringing his door bell, one of the teenagers flipped him off. Police say, Hill responded by hitting the teenager.

Sources tell NewsChannel 11 the teen's jaw was broken. Police will interview witnesses for the next ten days before presenting evidence to the District Attorney's Office.
