Dr. Mimi Zumwalt offers tips for whole body fitness

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Dr. Mimi Zumwalt, an orthopedic surgeon, has returned to Lubbock from the World Tri-fitness competition, bringing home three medals this year.

At age 54, she says she has learned that the secret to feeling and looking younger is exercise. And one good way to take fitness to the next level is boot camp, or intensive, whole body conditioning. Her Tri-fitness competition is similar to boot camp in that it uses the whole body to lift and run and even push through the monkey bars while swinging from arm to arm.

But no matter where you learn these techniques, she says the trick is to never push too hard or too fast.

She explains, "Make sure you warm up. Get your blood flowing to the muscles, and make sure you cool down and use correct technique. And don't do it every day because your tendons and joints will wear out."

Dr. Zumwalt came to our studio in her workout clothes because we had planned for her to demonstrate some fitness moves. Unfortunately, we didn't have time but will include that in another segment with Dr. Zumwalt.
