Less than three weeks till the start of 2-a-days, the Silverton Owls are in need of a new Head Coach. Principal Clyde Parham hopes to find a motivating coach to come in and lead the pigskin program.

“Silverton seems to be a great place. We have a lot of good coaches and they just tend to stay there a year or so and move on. It’s not a problem, but we wants a coach who wants to come and stay. We have 4 starters coming back on offense and 3 on defense and we have a good chance to make a good run. We just need someone to come in and step in and do a good job for us.”

The Owls went 3-7 last season, but started the year 3-1. Their non-district schedule includes games with Miami, Kress, Anton, Lorenzo and Wilson. That should prepare them for district 2 of 1A Division 2 with Valley, Groom and Hedley.

“Our chances of making the playoffs are pretty good. It’s a matter of finding a coach right now to come in and get our kids motivated and going.”

Some of the Owls best seasons were in 1990-97 under Clyde Parham so if he has to he’ll step in to lead the Owls.

“If I have to coach again I probably will. If we find somebody that will do us a good job, I can mentor them or help them along.”

Coaches come and go from Silverton, but the boys are dedicated and ready to work for this program.

“We have great kids there. They’ve been through a lot of coaching changes. The thing about them is, they’re resilient. They keep fighting back and never give up.
