SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador – Texas Tech track & field’s Trey Culver earned silver at the North American, Central American and Caribbean Athletics Association (NACAC) U23 Championships in the high jump on Sunday morning, July 17, at Jorge “El Magico” Gonzalez National Stadium.

Culver opened the competition at 1.95m/6-4.75, clearing on his first attempt. After passing 2.00m/6-6.75, he cruised through the next five bars, needing only one jump at each to make it over successfully. Once he cleared 2.16m/7-1, the event became a two-man field, ensuring the champion would be from the United States.

Battling Avion Jones (East Carolina), Culver found his way over the bar on his third attempt at 2.19m/7-2.25 to continue in the competition. Jones passed at the height and would move on to clear 2.22m/7-3.25 on his third jump; however, Culver would bow out from there, giving him second at the championships.

The silver medal adds another to the trophy case for Culver in 2016. The Lubbock native captured the NCAA Indoor title on March 11, won the Big 12 outdoor crown and placed second at the indoor conference meet.
