The Lamesa Fire Department takes pride in its service.
It has both a paid and volunteer staff.
Chief Larry Duyck tells us they cover 900-square miles. And, work with departments in neighboring counties.
But, it's not just emergencies that the firefighters help with.
"It's about firefighting, but part of your job is community service," said Chief Larry Duyck. "We have a lot of people with various talents, and we put them to use in order to have something nice we may not be able to just afford on our own as a city."
"Right now, we're helping with the softball field, get it up and going. We used to have tournaments here a long time ago; we're trying to get that back," said Capt. Edward Schwartz.
The Lamesa Fire Department has two fire stations, with crews available 24-hours per day.
