Police Search For Possible Murder Suspect

Local, state, and federal authorities are searching for a possible murder suspect. He is 55-year-old Vernon Ray Gilmore. He is considered armed and extremely dangerous.

Police say, Saturday afternoon, Gilmore tried to cash a check on the account of murder victim Rex McGuire. McGuire was found shot to death in his home on April 20th.

Bank employees alerted authorities and a chase ensued. Police say Gilmore fired shots at police before stealing a car at gunpoint from a motor home park.

Gilmore was last seen at 98th and Indiana, which is now part of what police are calling a search area between 114th street and the South Loop and from Quaker to the I-27. They were able to pinpoint this area by tracking Gilmore's cell phone calls. Gilmore was last seen driving a stolen 1994 silver Chevy short bed with a blue stripe and a white toolbox. License plate number 8YFT41.

Police stress if you see Gilmore, do not attempt to take matters into your own hands or to detain him. They say call law enforcement immediately.
