The man police are calling a suspect in Lubbock's latest homicide is in custody.
Lubbock police say a man checked into a Days Inn motel in Burleson, which is just South of Fort Worth, using the name Rex McGuire. You'll remember, McGuire was found dead inside his home last Wednesday night. Now police believe 55-year-old Vernon Ray Gilmore may be a suspect in that murder.

Police say Gilmore tried to cash a check on McGuire's account Saturday at a bank in Wolfforth. When bank officials alerted law enforcement Gilmore fled. He then led police on a chase that included stealing a truck at gunpoint and even shooting at police officers. Gilmore was last seen at 98th and Indiana around 1pm Saturday. That's when the chase was called off. US Marshals were called to the motel in Burleson and had the man held up for at least 6 or 7 hours.
Law enforcement confirmed the man's identity just before 10 p.m. Sunday. Gilmore was arrested without incident and did have a gun in his possession. He had also rented a storage shed in McGuire's name.
