LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

According to a Lubbock Police report, an off-duty deputy with the Crosby County Sheriff's Office saw a man approach a vehicle "in a suspicious manner" and take a purse from the vehicle parked at a daycare in the 2500 block of 22nd Place.

As the man was walking away, the victim walked out of the daycare and saw the man with her purse. She grabbed her purse, trying to get it back when the man knocked her to the ground.

The man got into a blue Kia with eyelashes on the headlights and drove away. The deputy was in his personal vehicle and followed the vehicle and called Lubbock Police Department dispatch with the location of the man and the vehicle.

Officers and a Lubbock Fire Department fire marshal heard the radio traffic and responded. Police reports say as the marshal drove north on Elgin, he met the suspect vehicle and watched it turn into the north alley of 2900 45th Street, behind the Boston Creek Apartments.

The marshal turned in behind the suspect vehicle and activated the emergency lights on his unmarked vehicle.

The man got out of the vehicle to try and the marshal tried to arrest him. The suspect pulled away and tried to run, but LPD officers arrived and took him into custody.

The man has been identified as 39-year-old Cory Robert Johnson of Lubbock. He is being held on charges of robbery and resisting arrest.

The victim only had minor injuries.
