After an uncharacteristic 2-8 season, the Jayton Jaybirds are ready for 2016. Coach Josh Stanaland says they are motivated.
"It's the first time we haven't made the playoffs in a while. You wouldn't ever think there would be a silver lining to a season like that. If there is one it's a hunger I see in them. The last time we weren't in the playoffs our seniors were little elementary kids. That's not something they want to experience again. We've had as good a spring and summer since I've been there and this is my 10th year. They're fired up and ready to go."
Jayton has a tough non-district starting hosting Throckmorton. Jayton looks to be in the mix in district with Guthrie, Patton Springs and Benjamin.
"We're gonna get back in the playoffs this year. That's goal number 1. I think we have a team, if we are fortunate with injuries, we have a group of kids that can get it done."
