POST, TX (KCBD) -

A water tank near Post, TX, storing water for the city of Lubbock, began overflowing Saturday afternoon, and now they say 1.4 million gallons of water was lost. However, the city uses more than 50 million gallons of water per day, so it was less than three percent that was lost.

The tank is located on FM 651, north of Post. Officials say there was a glitch in the power provider which caused an automated valve on the discharge side to malfunction. The valve outlet side began pumping backwards, which caused the overflow.

They have shut off the pumps from Lake Alan Henry to the tank until the repairs can be made.

According to Post officials, they received a call at 4:25 p.m. Post officials called Water District officials in Lubbock about the issue.

Lubbock officials say the water was overflowing for about four hours on Saturday.

They also say no water rates will be affected by the overflow.
