Academy Sports hosts Back to School shopping spree

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Academy Sports and Outdoors hosted its annual Back to School shopping spree on Tuesday morning at the 5802 19th Street location.

Thirty kids from the Boys and Girls Club of Lubbock received a $100 Academy gift card to use for uniforms, athletic apparel, backpacks, shoes and other school supplies.

This is the program's seventh year that has grown to benefit more than 3,000 kids throughout the southeast and midwest regions in the United States.

    The crash involving a motorcycle and a pedestrian happened just before 8 p.m. near 50th and Ave. V. Officials say the pedestrian, who was crossing 50th Street, was hit by a motorcycle. The pedestrian died at the scene. The pedestrian has been identified by police as 33-year-old Quisha Rotay Cook.
