The "Truth in Taxation" legislation has made it through the Texas House, and is on its way to the Senate.
The goal of the bill is to safe-guard property tax cuts by limiting the amount of revenue local governments can take in without voter approval. The bill, introduced by Representative Carl Isett, would require any increases above 5% to be approved by voters.
"We are trying to stop the problem of appraisals going up and nobody taking responsibility for taking more money." Representative Isett said.
The bill would also allow local tax revenue to increase more than 8% without a rollback election.
