Vernon Gilmore was captured at a hotel in a town just south of Fort Worth. On Tuesday he was brought back to Lubbock to face multiple charges, including capital murder.
Just hours after Gilmore returned to Lubbock Tuesday afternoon, a Lubbock Grand Jury indicted him for capital murder.
He was arrested in Burleson Sunday, just one day after he escaped authorities on the South Plains. In addition to capital murder, he was also indicted on six other charges including aggravated robbery and attempted capital murder for shooting at Wolfforth police on Saturday.
That's when he tried to cash a check on Rex McGuire's account. Police believe Gilmore is the man who shot Rex McGuire to death. He was found dead inside his south Lubbock home last Wednesday with several gunshot wounds to his body.
Gilmore is a convicted murderer for killing a Lubbock man in the early 80's, but served his time and was out on parole. The U.S. Marshals have been looking for Gilmore because he had violated that parole.
Vernon Gilmore was arraigned Tuesday night.
