LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

On Friday, millions of Texans will get to enjoy saving a few bucks on school supplies, but this tax-free weekend even families without children and without a need for spiral notebooks and colored pencils can enjoy the savings too.

As in previous years, the law exempts most clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks priced less than $100 from sales and use taxes, which could save shoppers about $8 on every $100 they spend.

According to the National Retail Federation, the average household spends $673 on School shopping before the first day of classes.

If you're looking to maximize the savings you can order/purchase bigger ticket items such as winter coats, backpacks, and dress shoes.

KCBD found a comprehensive list with some surprising items that you can get tax-free Friday through Sunday, as long as the price is $99.99 or under.

  • Adult Diapers
  • Slippers
  • Caps
  • Bowties
  • Pajamas

  • Swimsuits
  • Aprons
  • Baseball Jerseys/Football Jerseys
  • Panty Hose

All sales of qualifying items made during the holiday period qualify for the exemption, including items sold online. Shoppers can use layaway plans to take advantage of the sales tax holiday.
